Barclays creates hundreds of new permanent jobs follow...

Unite is delighted to confirm that, having been in discussions with Barclays for several weeks, fixed term employees in the Customer Experience PPI & PBA Operation and the PPI and PBA Quality Assurance Teams, several locations, including - Middlesbrough, Northampton, Poole, Stockton and Wavertree (Liverpool) -  are being offered permanent positions with Barclays.

In total around 700 staff across the UK will be impacted and as a result, will have the same rights, status and benefits as any other permanent employees in Barclays, as well as, importantly, being afforded a measure of validation and job security that Unite believes only a permanent position can offer.

Unite commends Barclays for this progressive step in what is still an extremely difficult job market. This move will give reassurance to hundreds and colleagues in the organisation who have earned this reward for their hard work, dedication and loyalty to Barclays through what has been an extremely difficult period for the business.

Barclays has also agreed that the start dates for colleagues, whilst being implemented formally.

On 1st October, will be backdated to the original date of hire on direct fixed term contracts, which in turn means that many colleagues will also receive the full protection of employment law in the coming months.

Unite has also ascertained that , if colleagues have already completed their full probationary period, they will not be required to work any additional probation period, so will have comparable status with all permanent employees from 1st October.

Unite has already secured through collective and individual representation, pay rises, in some cases significant, for a large number of colleagues in this business area. This latest development once again demonstrates the strength and influence of Unite, whilst working in partnership with Barclays.
Many colleagues who will be positively impacted by this announcement, have already joined Unite and have derived direct benefit from Unite’s representations on their behalf. We are confident that many more colleagues will be keen to join following this fantastic news.

Unite will have representatives on hand at all major sites impacted by this news following the announcement and will also follow this up with regular visit to provide support, advice and information to members. We will also be very happy to discuss the benefits of Unite membership with colleagues.
