The sector is vital to the success of the UK economy, producing over one million cars and commercial vehicles, and over two million engines annually, with a turnover of £40 billion, exporting vehicles to China, Russia, and South America.There are also approximately 2,300 companies in the supply chain for the sector,

Unite members design and manufacture cars, vans, tracks, buses, coaches, taxis, construction and agricultural vehicles, and are involved in the repair of vehicles of all types. Unite also covers supervisors and managers in vehicle manufacturing companies. Unite has members in all the main vehicle producers in the UK and Northern Ireland, including global companies such as Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Bentley, Wrightbus and Caterpillar.
Unte covers workers in the complete supply chain for the design, production, manufacture, warehousing and installation of parts and components for the automotive, vans, trucks, bus and coach industries. This also covers workers involved in the manufacture and installation of windscreens, environmental, navigation, illumination equipment and breakdown and recovery.
