In the basement of Tower Hamlet’s historic St George’s town hall Unite Community is growing. A vibrant community hub in one of Britain’s most diverse and eclectic areas, our centre in Tower Hamlets has excellent training and organising facilities.
Unite Community is making real inroads into the local area, by visiting and speaking at everything from community groups to religious buildings, educating people about our union and the importance of collectivism today.
The centre is providing welfare advice on a peer to peer basis to those being hit hardest by the effects of austerity Britain. A private renters group has been formed from Unite Community activists who are standing up to rip-off rents and cowboy landlords.
Unite Community Centre also hosts the United Migrant Workers' Education Project which has established a community education scheme which provides free ESOL classes to the local community, facilitated on a voluntary basis by qualified tutors. The centre also provides a number of different ICT classes as well as NVQs in subjects such as hospitality, childcare and employability.
We encourage Unite members to get involved with our centre or simply pop by for a cup of tea.
See you at Cable Street soon.
