Welfare benefits check-up 

Millions of pounds per year goes unclaimed by people who are entitled to benefits. Unite’s trusted provider offers you an online calculator to determine whether you are claiming the right type and amount of benefit. 


Gas and electricity comparison service 

Unite community membership gives you access to Union Energy, the TUC’s price comparison service. Call our free helpline with your post code and details of your energy consumption, and we will arrange the best deal on your behalf. 

Union Energy promises to find Unite members the most competitive domestic energy deal. The service guarantees that prices remain low in the future through its ongoing monitoring programme. Members using this service can save an average of over £150 each year.

Tax refund advice 

If you think you have paid too much tax on your earnings, our trusted providers can help you claim a rebate. Simply complete a form, available by post or on our website, and our providers will apply to the Inland Revenue on your behalf. This service has so far reclaimed over £7m on behalf of our members. The average refund is £210 per individual. We do not charge for this service, however our providers will take a percentage of your refund should you be successful.

Free personal and fatal accident cover 

Unite can offer you up to £5,000 of personal and fatal accident cover as part of the community membership scheme. If the unthinkable happens it’s good to know somebody is there to help.

Benevolent fund 

Apply for a one-off grant from Unite’s benevolent fund which is there to support members during times of financial hardship. 

We will send you an application form which will ask you a range of questions about your income, savings, capital, debts and housing expenditure, as well as information about your circumstances. 

The benevolent fund trustees will carefully consider your claim on its merits, taking into account our available budget and our framework of guidelines to decide whether you are eligible for financial support.
