Unite, the UK and Ireland's largest union with 1.4 million members, represents the interests of working people at work and now within local communities. Unite has launched its new 50p per week community membership scheme which is open to all who are not in paid employment. Unite is offering community members a collective way to find their voice and shape their local community through local grass-roots campaigning.
Unite is looking to recruit a Regional Community Coordinator to roll out the union's new community membership scheme in the East Midlands. The role involves identifying, supporting and developing community activists and self-sustaining community groups for issue based campaigning and the wider advancement of trade union values and social justice. The role will extend links between the union's working and community members.
The position is full-time, on a seven month fixed term contract commencing in February 2014.
Salary: £32,920 per annum
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, be able to work within disadvantaged communities and have experience of trade unionism and/or grass roots community activism.
