Organisers in training

Fighting back for workers, Unite is taking trade unionism into the tens of thousands of unorganised workplaces in Britain and Ireland. Working from Organising Units in the union’s 10 regions, each headed by a senior organiser, the organisers work as a team in a centrally driven structure, led by Unite’s National Organising and Leverage department. It is hard work in sometimes very tough circumstances but there will never be a better opportunity for those who want to make a difference.

The following vacancies are currently available across all regions with the exception of Ireland:

  • Organisers in Training (training and assessment period is for 1 year before progression to Organiser grade)

Pay: £26,681 + £2,025 per annum unsocial hours’ payment (non-pensionable). London Allowance £3,746 for those whose office base is inside the M25.

The Organiser in Training must have the ability to engage with people, identify leaders and motivate workers to take action in multiple workplace environments. Applicants must have previous industrial experience of representing workers collectively.

The Unite Organisers are making a difference. They are a diverse group and come from all walks of life.

The top scoring candidates at the assessment centre will be offered a position in the Unite Organising structure as an Organiser in Training.  They will then undertake a 1 year assessment process, which they must pass prior to them being permanently appointed at an Organiser Grade.  Current salary for Organiser Grade is: £39,976 - £42,775 + £2,025 per annum unsocial hours payment (non-pensionable) + London allowance of £3,746 for those whose office base is inside the M25.

Due to the nature of these roles, there is a high travelling commitment and work will often be outside normal office hours and at weekends. This is NOT an office based role and candidates must be in possession of a driving licence.
