What is the CPHVA and who can belong to this?

The CPHVA (Community Practitioner’s & Health Visitor’s Association) is a professional section of Unite with many thousands of members working in the health sector. It is the UK professional body that represents registered nurses and health visitors who work in a primary and community health setting. CPHVA membership is available to:
 
  • Health Visitors
  • Registered General Nurses (RGNs) working in community health
  • School Nurses
  • Health Visitor Lecturers
  • Health Visitor/School Nurse Managers
  • Practice Nurses
  • District Nurses
  • Staff Nurses
  • Family Planning Nurses
  • Occupational Health Nurses
 
CPHVA membership is also open to nursery nurses with the following qualifications:
 
  • Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE) awarded by CACHE (formerly NNEB). In Scotland, HNC in childcare and education.
  • Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years awareded by EDEXEL.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Early Years and Education, awarded by C&G, CACHE, EDEXEL and the Open University.
CPHVA members receive professional liability insurance cover against claims of up to £3 million.
 
Along with the standard benefits of a Unite member, other benefits include:

The following categories of membership are available at the prescribed monthly rate:
 
Full Time (£12.30) – members aged 18 or over who are salaried and normally work 21 hours or more each week
Part Time (£5.57) – members aged 18 or over who are salaried and normally work less than 21 hours per week
Overseas (£7.40) – Members resident outside England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Germany whether working or unemployed
Students (Associate Membership) – non-salaried students can elect to pay £46.00  per academic year. This includes standard Unite cover and monthly subscription to the Community Practitioner Journal. Please note that this category of membership does not include professional liability insurance cover.
 
CPHVA members may only pay their membership subscriptions by Direct Debit. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly, half yearly or annually.
