UK workers want fair access to UK construction
projects
Overview
Unite the union is fighting for a fairer deal for workers
on UK construction contracts.
At a time when the engineering construction sector has
the ability to be offering quality jobs to working people, UK
workers are being excluded from these job opportunities and the
hard-won NAECI agreement is under serious threat.
Because the employers’ body, the ECIA refused the majority of our
demands during negotiations with our unions, Unite and the GMB, we
are left with no choice than to ballot our members for industrial
action to defend their right to work in the industry, defend the
integrity of the terms and conditions enshrined in the ‘Blue Book’
and ensure that these benefits apply to all workers in the
industry.
Your union is urging you to Vote "YES" to defend UK
construction jobs
What we want:
- a pay rise
- a register of unemployed workers in the industry which
the employers must use to fill vacancies
- a transparent and effective auditing system to monitor
‘Blue Book’ rates and other benefits apply to all
- twelve paid trips home for all workers regardless of
where they come from
- ability for union full time official to instigate
procedure at any site
- procedure to ensure all workers have appropriate skills
(eg ACE card)
Your vote counts - your
union is urging you to cast a YES vote. To make sure you receive
you ballot paper it is vital that all workers on NAECI construction
sites check their membership contact details are up to date. If you
haven’t already updated your details please contact your local shop
steward or give Mike Gaskell a call on 01704 546 500.
