Dear XXXXX XXXXX
Please help stop Diageo job cuts which will devastate
Scotland
On 1st July, Diageo made the devastating announcement that it
was restructuring its operations in Scotland, and with it cutting
900 jobs.
I am a worker at that plant. Along with my colleagues, I
stand to lose my job if we cannot persuade Diageo to change
course.
For all of us affected by these cuts, this news is
terrifying. We have homes to keep and families to feed so I
am writing to you today to ask that you do all that you can to help
us protect our jobs.
I cannot understand why Diageo would look to turn its back on
Scotland, the country which has helped build the reputation of its
brands across the world.
Diageo is a hugely profitable corporation, last year making a
stunning £2,226 million in profits, money we helped to make for
them, and awarding its CEO a pay package worth a staggering salary
£5.1 million. It is not struggling in the recession, and
these plants are productive and efficient.
Yet Diageo's proposals, should they go through, will scar
Scottish communities in Port Dundas, Hurlford, Kilmarnock and
Shieldhall for generations to come.
This attack on Scotland's workers is unwarranted and is nothing
more than a grab for ever-bigger profits and more generous returns
to shareholders.
There is an alternative way forward, one which means continued
prosperity for Diageo but not at the expense of Scotland's
communities. My union, Unite, is working to promote this
approach but we need all your help to get this massive global
company to listen to us, the workers.
Please help us persuade Diageo to listen to reason. We
urgently need your help.
Yours sincerely
