Pentonville 5 45 years on

The traditional celebration of the release of the Pentonville 5, in 1972, by mass union action, organised by the Cities of London and Westminster Trades Council, Dockers' Network and Unite the union. 

This event is the 45th anniversary celebration and speakers include Unite general secretary Len McCluskey. 

In July 1972 five London dockers were jailed in Pentonville prison. Theyhad picketed in defiance of Tory anti-union laws. A wave of unofficialindustrial action swept the country forcing their release.

It was a massive working class victory – part of a wave of actions  including factory occupations, work-ins and more. A long battle against anti-union laws was underway.
