Investors in People
On 16 March 2001, Amicus received formal
notification that it had been awarded the coveted Investor in
People accreditation.
Investors in People is a national quality standard that sets a
level of good practice for improving an organisation's performance
through its people.
The accreditation is difficult to obtain and
is awarded after Investors in People Inspectors have conducted a
rigorous review. They look at all operational areas and check that
the organisation:
- is committed to supporting the development of its people
- is clear about its aims and objectives and what its people need
to do to achieve them
- develops its people effectively in order to improve
performance
- understands the impact that its investment in people has on its
performance
It is only when Investors in People are satisfied that these
criteria have been met that the accreditation is awarded.
Amicus, and now Unite, is the largest union
to gain accreditation nationally and its very size and diversity
makes the award a significant achievement. Other organisations that
have been recognised by Investors in People include
GlaxoSmithKline, BP, Shell, Tesco and Unilever.
